The career of Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes has attracted considerable interest and excitement since his international debut in the early 1990s. He is now firmly established as one of the most compelling artists on the international concert circuit.

Andsnes records exclusively for EMI Classics. He is the recipient of three Gramophone Awards; most recently in the Best Concerto category for his recording of Grieg and Schumann Piano Concerti with the Berlin Philharmonic and Mariss Jansons. He won, in the same category in 2000, the award for his disc of Haydn Piano Concerti Nos 3, 4 & 11, with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra which he directed from the keyboard and in 2002 his Grieg ‘Lyric Pieces’, played on the composer’s own piano in Troldhaugen, won the Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental recording.

His discography to date includes recordings of Haydn, Chopin, Schubert and Schumann Sonatas, Liszt piano works, Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Shostakovich and Britten Piano Concerti. His recording of Mozart Piano Concerti Nos. 9 and 18 was released in the autumn of 2004, to critical acclaim, as was a new recording of “Winterreise” with Ian Bostridge. In June 2005, he recorded Rachmaninov Piano Concerti Nos. 1 and 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic and Antonio Pappano, a disc which EMI released this autumn. His next disc, of solo piano works, is due for release in spring 2006.
