A new star in the making, Latvian mezzo soprano Elina Garanca records her first recital on Virgin Classics, with a programme of Mozart’s opera and concert arias. The recital features some of Mozart’s most loved opera and concert arias for mezzo soprano, such as Dorabella’s ‘Smanie implacabili’ in Così, and the concert arias ‘Non temer, amato bene’ and lesser known arias from La finta giardiniera.

Elina Garanca has quickly established herself as one of opera's brightest new stars. As a member of the Vienna Staatsoper, she has come to the attention of leading theaters around the world; she has captured critical and popular acclaim for her beautiful voice, intelligent musicianship, and compelling stage portrayals. Highlights of upcoming seasons include her debuts with the Opéra de Paris, Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, and the Metropolitan Opera as well as return engagements in leading roles with the Salzburg Festival and in Vienna.

Elina Garanca’s first collaboration with Virgin Classics was in Vivaldi’s Bajazet, with Fabio Biondi, which has been released to great critical acclaim. Her next collaboration furthers the Mozartian repertoire, with the DVD release next Spring 2006 of Così fan tutte, the Patrice Chéreau production created at Aix-en-Provence this summer, with Daniel Harding, and revived this September at the Opéra Garnier in Paris.
